Great To Be Back

It was such a good feeling to drive to downtown Portland. To regognize everything from last year and being able to drive to The Convention Center without a hitch was great. Also the feeling that it is one year ago I was here was weird. It felt like last week. Time certainly flies.

Keynote

Joel Spolsky

I thought it was pretty funny. Great slides but no Ze Frank by a long shot.

Entrepeneurs on Rails

Good talk from Dan Benjamin about setting up your own business. All the little details that are needed to start your own shop like lawyers and doing accounting. And don't forget about liability and the kind of business you want to start.

Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief Modeling Systems

Talk about a dev team that is struggling with the issues of data modelling versus object modelling. I found it too simple to be honest.

The Profitable Programmer

Great talk about creating financially profitable Rails apps. Be it a 'one man army' or more people. Great panel by the way.

UI Design on Rails

Ryan Singer from 37signals presented this talk and I liked it very much. Keyword was designers and developers working together. Not a bureaucratic wall between them. So if that involves for example that the designer must know a bit about subversion then let that be the case.

Keynote - Less Code More Sleep

By David Heinemeier Hansson

Not so much technical or new features but more about the surplus of rails. Also more about life in general and not about programming. Less Code More Sleep. In other words, its not cool anymore if you say that you only slept three hours last nite and your gonna code the whole weekend. I think this is a good direction.

This was a great first day. And now I need some serious sleep :-))
